Having gained plenty of notice for her quippy, warm performance alongside Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe in the criminally underrated The Nice Guys, Angourie Rice has been recruited by director Sofia Coppola for her next movie, The Beguiled.
Coppola has based her script on the same Thomas Cullinan novel that powered the 1971 original, which saw Clint Eastwood as an injured Union soldier who is imprisoned in a Confederate girls’ boarding school during the Civil War. He charms his way into the hearts of women of all ages at the institution and causes jealousy and betrayal to spread.
Colin Farrell is playing the soldier this time around, with Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning and Kirsten Dunst are all aboard as various residents of the school. Rice is joining their ranks.
The actress has scored one other high-profile job this year; she’s playing Betty Brandt in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which recently wrapped production and is aiming at a 7 July release date next year.
