Translated Magazine Article
Big Thank you to Teal for translating this magazine article featuring Kirsten's Grandparents (Revue. 3rd may 2007)....

Right now 'Spider-Man 2' is shown at our cinemas. Two adorable old people from Hamburg were especially glad about the movie. Happily smiling they are leaving the little cinema "Koralle" in Hamburg-Volksdorf, even though the fantasy movies "Spider-Man" – like they say – aren't according to their taste. They just saw the movie because of the leading actress. The two are the biggest fans of the Hollywood-star Kirsten Dunst, 25. They are her grandparents.

The famous actress, who already stands with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts in front of the camera, does actually have her roots in Germany, to be exact in Hamburg. Actually she had spent a part of her childhood in Germany. "Our son Klaus had went to America to study there", says Hermann Dunst, 86, to REVUE. "There he had married and worked for the Simens company in New Jersey. 1982 Kirsten was born there."

Kirsten's grandparents are living in a bright penthouse-apartment. Round the corner are some shops and a subway station. Ingeborg und Hermann Dunst sit on their terrace, page turning in an old photo album and wallow in memories: "Here is our Kiki with her scooter, do you still remember it? Or here, Kiki with us at the Baltic Sea in Timmendorf." When Kirsten was little, she has often visited her grandparents in Hamburg. "Here she always had played", tells Ingeborg Dunst, 84, with shining eyes. "The roof terrace was here stage and the corridor was her catwalk. Already as a little child she had fun to disguise herself and play roles. Once she was a princess, once Rumpelstiltskin." The grandparents were her first public: "She showed us her songs and jokes. She always had much imagination and charm." Five years "Omi" and "Opi" saw her granddaughter for the last time. "We had gone to Berlin, when 'Spider-Man 1' had its premiere.", tells Hermann Dunst. "But we won't do this ever again. You go with your granddaughter across the red carpet and from all sides people are screaming after an autograph and interviews. As 'Omi' and 'Opi' you're feeling left outside alone." Of course they are very proud of Kiki's achievement: "It's great when someone of your family become a Hollywood-star."

When the grandparents see Kirsten on-screen, they always see the little Kiki with big blue eyes and her meddlesomely laugh. "When something happens to her in a movie, we're suffering.", says Hermann Dunst. "When she came into the cinemas with 'Interview with a vampire', she was even 11. She acts a little vampire, who died at the end because of the sun and crumbled into ash. It was horrible for us."

They don't know when they will see their famous granddaughter again. "She had already invited us to her 25. birthday to New York.", says Hermann Dunst. "But we couldn't go there, because such a long journey is already too stressful for us." But nevertheless they had congratulated her. Son Klaus had called from America and had hand over the telephone to Kirsten. "She doesn't speak much German anymore and we only a little English." But this one sentence, which Kiki always says to them, when she's calling, do the two understand very well: "Omi and Opi, I love you!"
